Jacob Sandman, LIMHP

Jacob is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner who works primarily with adolescents and adults. He received his Master of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Jacob brings warmth, compassion, curiosity, and genuine respect for each person's experience to his work with clients.

Jacob believes therapy is about more than learning skills or reducing symptoms. While practical tools can be valuable, meaningful change often begins with feeling understood, accepted, and safe enough to be honest about what you're experiencing. He views the therapeutic relationship as a place where clients can explore their experiences, understand patterns that may no longer serve them, and discover new ways of moving through life.

His approach is collaborative and grounded in the belief that clients are the experts on their own lives. Rather than telling clients who they should be or how they should live, Jacob works alongside them to identify what matters most, develop greater flexibility in responding to challenges, and move toward greater alignment between their values and their choices. He believes healing does not require rejecting the parts of ourselves that helped us survive, but can involve understanding those parts with compassion while developing new ways of responding.

Jacob has specialized training and experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders, and the lasting effects of difficult or overwhelming experiences. His training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion, Trauma-Informed Care, Gender-Affirming Care, and suicide prevention.

Jacob draws from these approaches to provide care that is responsive to each client's individual needs. Whether someone is seeking relief from specific symptoms, working through trauma, navigating a life transition, or trying to understand themselves more fully, he meets them where they are.

Above all, Jacob works to create a therapeutic space where people feel safe, welcome, and genuinely accepted as they are. He believes that people can be struggling without being broken, and that therapy can help us develop a deeper understanding of ourselves while building a life that feels increasingly like our own.
